It was a game of rushed passes and missed chances; frenetic and hugely flawed. Amid the mayhem you might have expected Celtic to bring some composure, but they rarely found it. This was the first time since March 2016 that Celtic had failed to score at home.
Rangers created the first chance of the day, with a little help from their high-press and some assistance from harried opponents. Scott Brown was hustled, Mikael Lustig was harassed. The Swede, as was the case so often throughout the derby, dithered and lost possession and Gordon was required to bail him out with a save from Morelos.
The visitors forced multiple errors from the champions, but Celtic still managed to get a dominant hold on the game. They played well only in pockets of the match, but should have put the encounter to bed during those mini-spells.
But Celtic boss Brendan Rogers insists draw against Rangers was a fair result as reported by Mark McDougall of Daily Record
He said: “It was a very frantic game. I thought we created the better chances in the first half. It wasn’t a great game of quality throughout the 90 minutes but certainly we had the better chances of the first half.
“But Rangers will say they had the better second half with chances and opportunities. We looked as though we could threaten but we couldn’t really make that breakthrough in the final third of the pitch.
“We’ve shown if we get that goal, especially early on then that really sets us up and opens the game up for us but all in all it was probably a point for both teams that was deserved.”
“It has done in the past in these games but we had those opportunities and Scott had that one at the back post which he tries to slot away but he’s trying to be too precise instead of just hitting the target.”
“The longer it goes on you give oxygen to the other team but like I say they had one or two chances second. One really good chance where Craig Gordon makes an unbelievable save so for us I’ve seen it over many years in these games that as the home team you can end up losing it 1-0 so for us to keep another clean sheet in our ninth game of the month and there’s probably a bit of tiredness in the performance as well then I can only give credit to the players.” He added
“It was a brilliant atmosphere today and like I say, a point was probably deserved for both teams.”
