Chelsea might have turned their attention to Roma in search of a striker after their supposed loan deal for West Ham’s Andy Carroll collapsed due to injury.

Reports from Sky Italy suggest Chelsea are interested in signing former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko from Roma

Their reports also say Chelsea are prepared to pay €50m for Dzeko and his team-mate Emerson Palmieri, who plays as left-back…..For some extra price though!

Chelsea are prepaird to let Roma have Michy Batshuayi on loan as part of the deal as Roma are not very willing to let go of Dzeko during this January window but the Italians are also asking for another €15m.

It was a disappointing afternoon for leaugue leaders Manchester City as they were held to a goaless draw against Roy Hudson’s side Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Ederson proved to be the hero for City as he denied Luka Milivojevic from the penalty spot in added time due to a foul on Wilfried Zaha by Raheem Sterling.

Palace ended City’s Premier League winning run that span to 18 straight games and have now left Manchester City with injury worries. Gabriel Jesus was substituted in the first half due to a knee injury and is sidelined to be out for about two months.  City also have another injury worry as Kevin De Byune who has played a vital role this season was stretched out after a dangerous tackle with Puncheon

Rangers held Celtic to earn a point at Parkhead in the finale old firm game of 2017

It was a game of rushed passes and missed chances; frenetic and hugely flawed. Amid the mayhem you might have expected Celtic to bring some composure, but they rarely found it. This was the first time since March 2016 that Celtic had failed to score at home.

Rangers created the first chance of the day, with a little help from their high-press and some assistance from harried opponents. Scott Brown was hustled, Mikael Lustig was harassed. The Swede, as was the case so often throughout the derby, dithered and lost possession and Gordon was required to bail him out with a save from Morelos.

The visitors forced multiple errors from the champions, but Celtic still managed to get a dominant hold on the game. They played well only in pockets of the match, but should have put the encounter to bed during those mini-spells.

But Celtic boss Brendan Rogers insists draw against Rangers was a fair result as reported by Mark McDougall of Daily Record

He said: “It was a very frantic game. I thought we created the better chances in the first half. It wasn’t a great game of quality throughout the 90 minutes but certainly we had the better chances of the first half.

“But Rangers will say they had the better second half with chances and opportunities. We looked as though we could threaten but we couldn’t really make that breakthrough in the final third of the pitch.

“We’ve shown if we get that goal, especially early on then that really sets us up and opens the game up for us but all in all it was probably a point for both teams that was deserved.”

“It has done in the past in these games but we had those opportunities and Scott had that one at the back post which he tries to slot away but he’s trying to be too precise instead of just hitting the target.”

“The longer it goes on you give oxygen to the other team but like I say they had one or two chances second. One really good chance where Craig Gordon makes an unbelievable save so for us I’ve seen it over many years in these games that as the home team you can end up losing it 1-0 so for us to keep another clean sheet in our ninth game of the month and there’s probably a bit of tiredness in the performance as well then I can only give credit to the players.” He added

“It was a brilliant atmosphere today and like I say, a point was probably deserved for both teams.”

Rumours from early last month suggested that Eden Hazard the 26-years-old  Belgian forward who has been playing a pivotal role at Chlesea FC in recent seasons was heading towards extending his current contract with the club which runs until 2020.

Hazard’s father, Thierry Hazard was record on Friday saying his son is playing a waiting game with his Chelsea contract in an effort to keep the door open for a possible move to Real Madrid

“What I can reveal about Eden is that he refused a contract extension,” he told Le Soir.

“This was so that, if necessary, he could follow the interest of the Real, whom he could see himself playing for.

“But, as of right now, there is no contact from Real Madrid. Eden is only one of the parties involved in his future.”

Despite his fathers’ claims, Sky Sports News has been told that Eden Hazard has not been offered a new contract by Chelsea as it is too early to begin discussions.
